Chelsea’s pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Gerson has started drawing attention from the Italian press as well, with more claims of a potential bid for him.

Newspapers Corriere Dello Sport and La Nazione both have stories on the 23-year-old today saying how impressive it is that he’s wanted by European sides again.

Roma paid nearly €19m to sign Gerson from Fluminense in 2016. After two seasons, they loaned him to Fiorentina, and at the end of the loan spell, the Giallorossi sold him to Flamengo for only €11m.

La Nazione refers to his time in Italy as a ‘failure’, and that’s why they consider it so impressive that he could show his potential in Brazil once again.

They write that his good performances for the Rio de Janeiro have drawn a race between Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for his signing this summer.

But Corriere Dello Sport only name Chelsea in the story. They say the Blues would be ‘on the point of offering’ Roma €35m to have the midfielder for next season.

The outlet also focuses on how much the Italian can side make with the transfer, since they have the right of 10% of a new move. Given the current financial situation, an amount of €3.5m would be very welcome by the Italian side.
