Sacked PSV Eindhoven chief John de Jong has been accused of making an ‘almost violent’ decision to reject Chelsea’s bid for Ibrahim Sangare.
The midfielder had been linked with a move away from the Dutch side throughout the summer window after impressing in the Netherlands for the last few years.
He ultimately didn’t make a move and signed a new deal with PSV, although there was a late option for him to depart.
That came from Chelsea, who made a late move in the window for him as they attempted to sign a new midfielder to bolster their squad.
He’s now been sacked by PSV and in a discussion about the decision to reject Chelsea’s bid, analyst Kenneth Perez, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, has claimed he was wrong to do so.
“(He) did exactly what he should have done,” claimed Vincent Schildkamp.
“I disagree with that,” Perez responded, “if you let a €50m bid for Sangare walk, I think that’s almost criminal.”
