Spanish newspaper Sport have a piece in their Thursday edition on Marc Overmars and interest in the former Barcelona and Arsenal superstar.
Overmars is currently director of football at Ajax, another club he starred for, and he’s caught Sport’s eye. Working within the parameters of Ajax’s budget, Overmars has managed to impress with his recruitment and budgeting.
It’s explained that whilst Overmars has been offered a new contract by Ajax, he hasn’t ruled out moving to England for a new challenge.
Sport say that clubs including Chelsea have made approaches to Overmars, but they haven’t received any response.
Chelsea may see Overmars as someone to oversee their youth recruitment, perhaps a more public figure than Michael Emenalo.
Recent recruitment by Chelsea has suggested that the club are further looking at developing lesser known players rather than always going for the obvious market solutions.
Maybe an Overmars move is more likely next summer, he’s already in the transfer process with Ajax and it’s probably too late now up sticks and manage the summer recruitment somewhere else.
