As Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a long story about Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, we get to see Liverpool getting mentioned a couple of times there.
The piece is mainly about the Lions trying to buy the remaining percentage (20%) of the player, which still belongs to Uruguayan side Fênix.
The South American side demand €5m for that, and the Lisbon club are wondering whether that’d be worth it, always looking forward to a big sale.
The outlet then mentions that Ugarte is targeted by several clubs at this end of season, and Liverpool are one of them. It’s said there’s a ‘strong probability’ that the offers will arrive.
O Jogo then features a short separated paragraph explaining that due to the interest from Premier League clubs, the midfielder’s talks with Sporting for a new contract are now ‘stalled’.
It’s claimed that ‘the only certainty’ is that all this recent will turn into ‘concrete proposals’.
And in case Liverpool or others put on the table something around the €60m of his release clause, then it’s highly unlikely that Sporting will be able to hold him.
