Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had to personally intervene to ensure Mathys Tel joined Tottenham at the end of the January transfer window.

That’s according to SportBILD, who report that Bayern remain hopeful they can get €60m from Tottenham in the summer for the French forward.

The newspaper explains that Bayern are currently being very careful with their finances, with the costs of renewing contracts and future transfers has limited them.

They need to balance the books and the €60m offered by Tottenham would have been very helpful on that front.

However, Tel initially refused to make the move, and it required CEO Dreesen to get involved himself to push the deal over the line. He had been the man who negotiated the deal for Harry Kane and used those connections, and his relationship with Daniel Levy, to work things out.

Tel ended up joining Tottenham on loan with an option to buy for €60m and Bayern are hoping that will be activated at some point. If not, the initial loan deal could get them around €10m if various bonus payments are met too.

It seems the German giants have eyed up Tottenham and their need to improve the squad as a means to make money and balance the books in the summer after the opportunity was missed last month.
