It appears that, unless Celtic change their strategy, Brendan Rodgers will not be welcoming Sydney Van Hooijdonk in Scotland, with the player heading to Norwich City instead.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who explain the 23-year-old striker is ‘on his way out’ of Bologna, and it appears that he will be continuing his career in the Championship.
Norwich City were reported earlier to have made a concrete offer for the Celtic target, which is now being backed up in his home country, as they see him as an ‘important reinforcement’ in their attempts to make the promotion playoffs.
In fact, the outlet state that Norwich and Bologna are ‘nearing an agreement’ on what will be a loan with an option to buy that will ‘most likely be exercised’.
The amount isn’t revealed, but it’s believed the Serie A side will get a ‘sum of millions’ for the striker, who had been heavily linked with Celtic over the past few days.
While there’s nothing fully official just yet, Voetbal International state the player will ‘probably continue’ his career in England, becoming the 11th Dutchman in the club’s history.
In short, if Celtic really want Van Hooijdonk, they are going to have to move quickly and decisively.
