Celtic are eyeing up a move for FC Twente’s Gijs Smal, with the left-back set to be available on a free transfer in the summer.
That’s according to 1908.nl, who say the Brendan Rodgers’ side are one of several eyeing up the defender when his contract comes to an end.
They explain that the 26-year-old is ready for the next step in his career and isn’t short of interest, with Celtic’s rivals Rangers also showing an interest in the January transfer window.
They need to sell Borna Barišić or Ridvan Yilmaz first, though, and in the meantime, Celtic have shown an interest and already told him ‘what they can offer’.
Whether they’ve been able to convince him Celtic Park should be his home isn’t mentioned but moves have been made by Brendan Rodgers and co. to convince him.
They’re not the only side in the mix, with Feyenoord and KAA Gent also having reached out to Smal, although the Dutch side did so after Celtic, which means the Scottish giants may be slightly out in front in this developing race.
They are said to have given Smal ‘one of the best offers’, though, suggesting Celtic may need to up their game if they really want him this summer.
