It’s now been almost an entire year since Carlos Carvalhal last had a job.
Relieved of his duties by Swansea City at the end of the 2017/18 season, the Portuguese manager has been resting from his period working in the United Kingdom, where he was also the boss of Sheffield Wednesday for over two years.
Carvalhal has attended the ANTF Forum in Portugal this week, and besides speaking on the platform, he also had a chat with journalists afterwards.
The manager was obviously asked about his future in football, and has claimed that his intention is to return to England. The problem is that he’s not getting good offers for that, and hasn’t had a chance to return to the Premier League.
“There really were situations, three situations with England discussing the possibility of making a contract. Three Championship situations. But they did not agree with what I think we deserve at the time. Even because they were situations in the middle of the season. And out of the goals and projects which my technical team and I advocate,” said Carlos Carvalhal (via Mais Futebol).
“I’m keeping the expectation of returning to England. But we will open, perhaps, the possibility of going to other countries. Because of course we want to work, and we want a project that has ambition and that at the same time has conditions to achieve the goals that these clubs want.”
During the forum, Carvalhal has also claimed that Benfica, who are commanded by his former assistant Bruno Lage, now play the same way Sheffield Wednesday used to. The quotes can be seen everywhere in the Portuguese press today.
