Last summer, Brighton & Hove Albion agreed a deal with Romanian side Farul Constanța for Adrian Mazilu to arrive at The Amex in January.
On December 18th, the winger revealed that he’s delighted to be joining the Seagulls and his aim is to make his Premier League debut with Brighton. He also admitted it will be “quite difficult” for him to adapt to the needs of English football initially.
Former Romanian assistant manager Nicolae Dică has told Orange Sport that the 18-year-old will get opportunities at Brighton, if he decides to continue there.
“If he stays in the team for six months or even a year, then he could play, he would get a chance!” he said.
Dică’s view isn’t shared by his compatriot, Basarab Panduru. The 53-year-old Romanian, who had spells at Benfica and FC Porto during his playing career, is of the belief the player shouldn’t continue with Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Orange Sport claim Panduru believes Mazilu wouldn’t be able to adjust in England quickly.
Panduru has even urged the Romania U21 international to join a Dutch club on loan in the winter market, in order to continue his development.
“I think the biggest stupidity would be to stay at Brighton. He should go, let him go to Holland, where everyone plays 4-3-3. Let him learn this football, then call him back, but you can’t call him that fast. He can’t stay in Brighton. I would be surprised if he stayed at Brighton,” Panduru told Orange Sport.
It’ll be clear in the coming weeks whether or not Mazilu will be included in De Zerbi’s plans this season.
