With Bayern Munich looking hard for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, it seemed like they could battle West Ham United for Julen Lopetegui.
The Spanish manager showed up in the Bundesliga side’s wish list, although it’s been clear that he’s in advanced talks with the Hammers.
As Sky Deutschland today shares an update on Bayern Munich’s situation, they point out that Lopetegui is now off the table, and that has everything to do with West Ham.
It’s said that even though the Spaniard had been ‘on the list’, club president Max Eberl ‘cancelled it by phone on Monday’, simply because the manager is about to take charge of the Hammers.
Bayern Munich are now set to look at other options, with Hansi Flick being a possibility, although the likes of Erik ten Hag, Roberto De Zerbi and Ernesto Valverde are still being considered.
West Ham should probably be proud of beating such European giants in the race for Lopetegui, then, as the London side are expected to soon announce his arrival to replace David Moyes.
