Newcastle United and Aston Villa could be options for Morten Hjulmand if he decides to leave Sporting in the summer window. That’s the opinion of former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner shared on Stolpe Ind podcast.

He’s of the belief the midfielder would fit well at Newcastle and can be an asset for Aston Villa. As well as the Premier League duo, he also mentioned Atlético Madrid as an option from Spain.

Sporting face Moreirense FC in the league later today. In the pre-match press conference, their manager, Rui Borges, was asked about his views on Bendtner recommending the 25-year-old to Newcastle, Aston Villa and the La Liga side.

Friday’s edition of O Jogo have relayed Borges’ comments, where he said: “Players have clauses, that’s beyond me, but he’s a player we believe in, who we really want to be part of the squad next season. Now, in relation to Hjulmand’s quality, he can play in any league.”

It’s worth noting there hasn’t been any concrete claims in Portugal recently on Newcastle or Aston Villa showing interest in the Denmark international.

Hjulmand joined the Lisbon club from Serie A side US Lecce in August 2023 and signed a contract until 2028. This includes a €80m release clause and Sporting, as per Borges, will refer his clause to his interested parties in the upcoming window.

The Dane made 41 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this season.
