Roma owner Dan Friedkin has presented an offer to Farhad Moshiri to buy Everton, coming forward after 777’s exclusivity period came to an end.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who back up reports from England of Friendkin’s attempt to buy Everton and explain the logic behind it.
The newspaper reports that Friedkin’s interest in the world of football is ‘increasingly expanding’ and that saw him present a bid for Everton to Farhad Moshiri.
The official figures of the bid are not yet known but the bid has been submitted alongside the other five bidders reportedly in the mix.
The Friedkin Group want to expand their current holdings in football, following the steps set out by the likes of the City Group.
They want to ‘create a galaxy of clubs’ to go alongside Roma, who are the current ‘family jewel’ and create a network from there that would see them exchanging players but also market and commercial opportunities.
Thus, the offer from Friedkin and co does not involve them potentially stepping away from Roma but, on the contrary, adding Everton to them and starting their own network like the City Group and others have built.
This is something CEO Lina Soulokou reiterated last month at an event in Sardinia, where it was made clear the group want to build a network of clubs.
“We were not born with football, we operate in many different sectors,” she said.
“But the Friedkin family has always thought about sport and with the purchase of Roma has changed and Cannes has also arrived.
“It will always be the center of our project, for the city and for the fans. There is not the slightest intention of leaving him, this must be very clear. The objective is to bring Roma to the top of European football.”
An official offer for Everton has now been presented with that in mind and the hope is they can win the race, with Friedkin and his group one of several bidders in the mix.
