Burnley have been warned that any transfer talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach for defender Jordan Beyer ‘promise to be expensive’.
That’s according to Sport 1, who say Gladbach have the ‘upper hand’ in any potential negotiations this summer.
Beyer is currently on loan with the Clarets, having joined in the summer in search of regular playing time under Vincent Kompany in the Championship.
He has certainly managed that, establishing himself as a key player in the Belgian’s defence and impressing from minute one, earning himself the title ‘Beckenbeyer’.
Those performances mean Burnley are likely to push for a permanent deal in the summer, particularly if they are promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.
The problem for them is that they failed to agree a purchase clause in their loan deal and that has handed the ‘upper hand’ to their German counterpart.
They would be more than happy to take Beyer back from Burnley in the summer as he would be a long-term replacement for Matthias Ginter.
If not, they are set to secure a ‘real windfall’ from any transfer talks as there is no clause so there is no need for them to negotiate. Thus, any negotiations, particularly if Burnley are a Premier League team at that point, ‘promise to be expensive’.
That’ll come as bad news for Burnley, who must be majorly ruing their failure to try for a purchase clause last summer.
