Back in April, the Brazilian media revealed that Burnley were interested in Wolfsburg fullback Paulo Otavio.
With the 28-year-old set to walk from the Bundesliga side for free at the end of the season, it was claimed that the Clarets, along with Al Saad, CSKA and Mallorca, should all soon make their bids to sign him in the summer.
It turns out, however, that an update from UOL today claims Burnley have actually lost the race for Paulo Otavio.
It’s said the Brazilian has an ‘agreement well underway’ with Al Sadd, and is on his way to Qatar.
The outlet recalls that Burnley, CSKA and Mallorca were indeed interested in him, but it was apparently Al Saad who managed to move first and get the signing done.
Last week, Wolfsburg had already confirmed that Paulo Otavio would be walking from the club after the four years he spent there.
That situation gave all clubs the chance to impress him with big wages, and perhaps the fact of playing the Premier League next season wasn’t enough for Burnley to win that battle.
