Despite claims that Maxime Estève was edging ever closer to a move to Burnley, it appears not everything was as rosy as first reported.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that the Clarets have made a ‘new offer’ to try and really convince Montpellier to let the defender go.
They recall that while Burnley had met the €12m or so package that the Ligue 1 side wanted, talks were ‘stagnating’, and the two sides were ‘completely in agreement’.
Since then, Montpellier decided to not accept the way the money would be paid by Burnley, who wanted to ‘delay’ the payment as much as possible.
The French side, down their end, clearly wanted it to be paid a bit more up front than what the Clarets wanted, and that’s why, to solve the situation, Vincent Kompany’s side made a ‘new offer’ to unblock the situation.
As things stand, they are still waiting on an answer from Montpellier, with Estève waiting in the wings, ‘ready to pack his bags’ to complete a transfer to the Premier League.
Now, we wait, just like Burnley.
