Burnley have already had to pay out a bonus for defender Hjalmar Ekdal following his move from Djurgården in January.

That’s according to Aftonbladet, relayed by Expressen, who say the Clarets have paid out a figure an unspecified figure after Ekdal featured in nine league games.

Ekdal joined Burnley in a £2.8m deal back in January as Vincent Kompany continued to add to his squad and plan for the future.

He’s been a regular since that point, making nine appearances in the Championship and featuring in 95% of the available minutes since his arrival.

That means ‘extra bang for the buck’ for his former team as part of the fee taking him to Burnley involved performance-based add ons.

One of those stated that if he played nine of the remaining 18 games in the league then Djurgården would be due a bonus. That has happened and so the Swedish side have now earned the additional money.

So far it’s a move that’s working out for all parties, with Ekdal happy with life so far and the fact his former side are benefitting.

“It must have been well negotiated by Bosse. He’s happy that I got to play,” he is quoted as saying.

“It has been awesome, intense and went faster than I thought. Got to play every league game. It wasn’t on the world map when I signed on to believe it. I rarely say that I am satisfied. But I am satisfied with that.”
