Burnley and AS Monaco are in contention to sign Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır in the summer window. That’s according to L’Equipe, and their title says ‘Burnley ahead’ in the race for the 29-year-old.

The Turkey international has kept 18 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals from 43 games this season. Monaco are keeping track of the goalkeeping market and have Çakır’s name on their list.

The report states the Ligue 1 club have taken initial steps to find out about the stopper’s situation at Trabzonspor. They add Monaco will face ‘fierce competition’ from Burnley in the race to secure his services.

According to the French newspaper, the Clarets have already made progress in the past few weeks to sign the player. As well as Burnley, two unnamed Turkish clubs are also working behind the scenes to keep him in the Süper Lig.

Although L’Equipe state Burnley are ahead, there’s nothing to indicate he’s willing to pick them over other clubs. Çakır’s contract lasts until 2027, and the fee needed to take him away from Trabzonspor isn’t mentioned.

James Trafford has played a key role in helping Burnley secure promotion to the Premier League. He kept 29 clean sheets and conceded 16 goals from 45 games this season.

Trafford is likely to be starter if Burnley can manage to keep him at Turf Moor. If not, the club has a need for a new No.1.
