Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi has rejected an approach from Napoli, insisting he intends to remain in the Premier League.
That’s according to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, who say that the Brighton coach has ‘communicated’ to Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis that he is ‘not interested, at least for now’ in coaching Napoli.
De Zerbi has earned himself a growing reputation this season, transforming Brighton into one of the most entertaining teams in England with a thrilling, attacking brand of football that has taken them into Europe next season.
That’s earned him plenty of admirers in and outside of the country, with Napoli the latest to be linked as they could be set to part ways with Luciano Spalletti.
He led the Italian side to the Serie A title this season but has had something of a falling out with De Laurentiis, leading to a belief he is set to depart this summer.
De Zerbi would be an interesting and adequate replacement for him, but Kiss Kiss Napoli report he has told the Napoli president he is not interested and ‘expressed his desire’ to continue in the Premier League with Brighton.
That is backed up by journalist Michele Criscitiello, who spoke about De Zerbi’s future on Sport Italia’s SiCafè.
“De Zerbi right now isn’t thinking about returning to Italy, because the way he interprets football, he could do it in Serie A, but up to a certain point,” he said.
“In England, on the other hand, it’s different, he has fun and enjoys it as if he had brought Frosinone into the Europa League, the comparison could be this.”
