Last month, we covered claims from Spain that Brighton & Hove Albion are trying to make an effort to retain Ansu Fati beyond this season.

He’s on loan at The Amex from Barcelona and it was stated Roberto De Zerbi is of the belief the winger hasn’t yet reached his best with the Seagulls.

Wednesday’s edition of Sport provides the latest on the Brighton man’s current situation and on his future.

The Spain international has scored four goals and registered an assist from 23 games for the Seagulls this season. His continuity at Brighton was hindered by a calf injury that forced him to spend two months on the sidelines.

Fati returned to action in February and hasn’t scored or registered an assist in the last nine games.

Although he has regained full fitness, the report states Fati is yet to recover his best form. During the last international break, the 21-year-old stayed at Brighton to work on his fitness instead of travelling to Barcelona.

As of now, Sport state the Barca owned player is happy with his life under De Zerbi. They further add the option to extend his stay at Brighton on loan next season is ‘gaining most strength’.

De Zerbi has been linked with a move away from Brighton and Sport make no mention of what will happen to Fati if the manager were to leave the Premier League side.
