Brighton & Hove Albion have focused on bringing in young talents from South America over the past few years.
Current first team players at The Amex like Moisés Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Julio Enciso and Facundo Buonanotte were all signed directly from the South American clubs.
In addition to this, Brighton have signed South Americans like Jeremy Sarmiento and Pervis Estupiñán from other European sides.
During an interview with ESPN Ecuador, relayed by Radio Sure, Estupiñán has hailed the Premier League side’s plan to sign young players from South America.
“The directive is visualizing the terrain of South America well because we have experienced people who are pushing the youngsters. Brighton are right to see that market because we are hungry young people, wanting to grow,” he said.
The Ecuador international mentioned this after Roberto De Zerbi’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United last weekend. Brighton lost the semi-final clash to the Red Devils on penalties.
The left-back, who played the full 120 minutes at the Wembley, has admitted he and his Brighton teammates should be proud, despite failing to seal a berth in the FA Cup final.
“We leave sad but at the same time proud of our team because we have been doing a good job… We had a goal that we already missed but we will try to do things well to finish in the European positions,” Estupiñán explained.
Brighton are in eighth spot and could climb to fifth place, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, if they win their games in hand.
