It was bound to happen at some point, but Brighton & Hove Albion have triggered the release clause in Marc Cucurella’s contract at Getafe.
The former Barcelona youngster has been a target for Graham Potter’s side all summer, and while there was hope in Spain he would stay, that doesn’t appear that’s going to be the case.
The news comes from Cadena COPE in Spain via their radio program El Partidazo de COPE on Twitter, and they make it clear that Brighton ‘are paying the €18m of the release clause’ and that the player ‘is going to leave Getafe’.
That’s all they have to offer at this moment in time, but, then again, that’s all the information required, since a fee was set to allow Cucurella to leave at any time if someone met it, and that’s exactly what the Seagulls have done.
Now, we’ll have to wait and see how long the player will be signing at the Amex for, but this appears to be very much heading in the right direction.
