Brighton and Hove Albion have until mid-July to take advantage of a clause in Cologne winger Jakub Kaminsi’s contract.
SportBILD report that the 24-year-old will only be available for €20m until the middle of July. After that, it will be a free for all.
Brighton face mid-July deadline for Jakub Kaminski clause
The newspaper explains that Brighton are once again shopping at Cologne after previously pursuing Said El Mala. Now their focus is on Jakub Kaminski. The advantage this time is that they don’t have to negotiate a transfer fee.
Instead, the winger is available for €20m, thanks to a clause included in the permanent deadl for him this summer. Sport Witness already reported on that interest and clause this week.
Now, according to SportBILD, there is a catch. The exit option has a deadline. Any deal using that €20m clause must be finalised by mid-July.
After that date, the fee is ‘freely negotiable’. So, anyone who want Kaminski this summer must move soon or risk him becoming much more expensive.
Brighton given encouragement as Kaminski opens door to move
Fortunately for Brighton, Jakub Kaminski is open to the move. His management are currently negotiating the terms for a potential move to the Premier League.
The Seagulls noticed the 24-year-old when scouting El Mala. They’ve now pivoted to him after El Mala’s family seemingly turned down a move to the Amex.
The deadline on the release clause also plays into Cologne’s hands. If they can do the deal early, it will allow them to plan effectively around the World Cup.
Losing Kaminski will be a blow given his performances last season. He managed seven goals and five assists in 36 games this season, establishing himself as a key player alongside the likes of El Mala.
That prompted Cologne to buy him permanently for €5.5m this summer, knowing there were bigger suitors on the horizon. Brighton are one of them and keen to spend the €20m to do so. They just need to get a deal done by mid-July, or he’ll end up costing significantly more.
