There’s a new report from Brazil claiming that Palmeiras have started targeting Diego Gómez as a potential replacement for Richard Ríos, who recently sealed a €30m (around £25.3m) move to Benfica.
According to BolaVip and journalist Diego Firmino, the Brazilian club are working on several options to strengthen their midfield, and the Brighton player is now on their radar.
Even though a deal is not described as simple, Palmeiras reportedly see Gómez’s lack of playing time in the Premier League as a potential opportunity, just as they did when signing Ramon Sosa.
The Paraguayan midfielder made 20 appearances for Brighton last season, totalling 671 minutes. Despite scoring only once, he stood out with 10 key passes, 27 tackles, 13 interceptions and 13 aerial duels won – numbers that show his defensive contribution and versatility.
Brighton signed Gómez for €13m (around £11m) in January 2025. His current market value is listed at €14m (around £11.8m), indicating a slight increase since his arrival.
A potential transfer could also be helped by the good relationship between the clubs. Brighton representatives visited Palmeiras’ training centre in São Paulo just last week, as we reported last week, and the visit is seen as part of an ongoing dialogue which may open doors to future collaborations.
For now, Diego Gómez’s limited role at Brighton makes him one of the most intriguing options for the Brazilian side, though any move will depend on the Seagulls’ willingness to negotiate.
