Brighton and Hove Albion have informed Standard Liege that they’ve abandoned plans to sell Steven Alzate this month and will be leaving him in Belgium until the end of the season.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who say the Colombian will be staying where he is until the summer.
Alzate has been heavily linked with a move away from Brighton this month, with the Seagulls seemingly shopping him around trying to find suitors after he temporarily returned from his loan spell at Standard.
He’s been with the Belgian side since 2022 when he joined them on loan, with that deal extended in the summer after injuries limited his playing time last season.
His contract at Brighton ends in the summer, meaning this month is their last chance to sell him, and they had been offering him around to see if there was any interest.
It appears there was not, though, and HLN now report that Brighton have abandoned the plans to sell.
According to them Brighton have informed Standard that Alzate will be finishing the season with them as there was no ‘concrete interest’ in a transfer so they couldn’t sell him this month.
Furthermore, the clause they had in his loan deal allowing them to terminate it early has now expired and so he’ll remain in Belgium for the next six months.
That’ll be a major boost to Standard, who had been very fearful of losing Alzate but can now plan with him moving forwards.
