Brighton and Hove Albion’s interest in Union SG forward Franjo Ivanovic is no surprise, given the close relationship between the two sides.

That’s according to Voetbal Nieuws, who say the past dealings between the two clubs makes Brighton’s interest in the 21-year-old almost a given.

They explain that Union hit the bullseye when they signed Ivanovic in the summer, with his performances so far this season already attracting a lot of attention in Europe.

Fillip Joos recently announced that Jose Mourinho had been left impressed by the youngster when his Fenerbahce side came up against him in the Europa League earlier this season and made enquiries about him afterwards.

Rumours are now growing that Brighton are interested in him and would like to make a deal happen in the January transfer window.

That is ‘no coincidence’ according to VN, who say the ‘good relationship’ between the two sides means Brighton are regularly looking at players at the club.

They’ve done a lot of business in the past, with Deniz Undav moving to Brighton from Brussels while Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra both spent time on loan in Belgium with Union before returning to Brighton and establishing themselves there.

It is therefore ‘not at all surprising’ that the Seagulls may have their eye on Ivanovic as he continues to be one of the trendsetters in the Jupiler Pro League.

Whether that leads to a move for the striker remains to be seen but Brighton’s interest is being seen as obvious, with that good relationship sure to facilitate a deal if they chase it.
