At the start of the week, when the Portuguese media released the list of clubs who scouted the match between Porto and Vitória Guimarães, there had been no information about Brighton & Hove Albion being there.
However, as newspaper Jornal de Notícias today features a story about Jota Silva’s great performance in that match, they come up mentioning that the Seagulls actually watched him.
Unlike the other stories, which brought no details on who Aston Villa and other clubs there were scouting, the outlet makes it very clear that Brighton were there to see the winger in action.
With the very good display against Porto, Silva now has 15 goals and seven assists in 35 appearances for Vitória Guimarães, and his stats are indeed creating some noise about a potential summer transfer.
Jornal de Notícias claims that his club are currently demanding €12m for their ‘hero’.
That’s not a lot of money for Brighton, neither for other Premier League clubs either, so we must also wait and see whether Aston Villa and others were impressed by what they saw at the weekend.
Aston Villa, of course, share shareholders with Vitória Guimarães, and that may give Unai Emery’s side an advantage here.
