Brighton and Hove Albion could revive their interest in Gerardo Arteaga in January, having been linked with him in the summer.
Arteaga is currently a part of the Mexico squad at the World Cup in Qatar, where he is yet to make an appearance.
He travelled to the tournament in decent form from Genk, where he is the first choice at left-back, making 16 appearances so far and scoring two goals and registering one assist.
His performances have been noticed, particularly by Lazio, who are interested in his signature according to Il Messaggero.
They, relayed by Calcio Mercato, report that he is the new name on the Italian side’s list of targets as they look to solve their problem at left-back.
They’re keen on him because he fits the profile of player they’re looking for but also because his contract expires next June, and he is valued at around €5m.
That situation had seen him linked with a move away in the summer, when a host of clubs were said to be interested in his signature, Brighton among them.
Il Messaggero bring their name into the mix again here, stating that Lazio are aware there is ‘no shortage of competition’ as Brighton, Getafe and Villarreal were all keen on him in the summer. Their suggestion is that the Seagulls may be keen again if he is available.
One potential complication is that Lazio may have an advantage as the player is represented by You First, who also manage their player, Luis Alberto.
That could be relevant factor in a possible negotiation for his signature, should Brighton get involved in the mix.
