Last week, we covered a report from Gazzetta dello Sport which stated there’s growing Premier League interest in Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, as Atalanta continue with their pursuit of the Danish midfielder.
TuttoAtalanta today have reported that Brighton are serious about their chase for O’Riley and have started ‘concrete’ talks with Celtic for the midfielder.
The Seagulls are in ‘pole position’ to sign the player, whilst and there is also interest from Leicester City and West Ham, they are not looking to pay what Celtic want.
The Hoops want a fee between £25m and £30m for the player and Brighton could meet that asking price.
There is a mention of interest from Chelsea, but they haven’t held any talks. Atalanta and Juventus have also taken a step back from their chase, with La Dea more likely to focus on signing a striker after the knee injury suffered by Gianluca Scamacca.
It’s believed all signs point towards Brighton leading the race for the 23-year-old Celtic star.
Atalanta, having stalled and debated over a few million for weeks, may now lose their chance entirely.
