Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo has been backed to become the first Ecuadorian player to win the Champions League.

That’s the opinion of former Ecuador favourite Jaime Iván Kaviedes, who believes the Brighton man is on a path to greatness.

Caicedo has been a key man for Brighton since returning from a loan spell in Belgium in January this year.

He quickly established himself in the heart of Graham Potter’s side in the second half of last season and has retained that place this under the Englishman and his successor Roberto de Zerbi.

He is a player with a bright future ahead of him and has already been linked to some of the biggest clubs in England, including Manchester United, who were in the picture before he joined Brighton.

Kaviedes is certainly impressed by what he has seen and believes it won’t be long before the Seagulls’ star is shining on the biggest stage in Europe.

“Moises Caicedo, for me, is going to be the first Ecuadorian player to win the Champions League,” El Universo report him saying.

“We are very excited about this boy, with friends that I have from Santo Domingo since we were little. This generation (of Ecuadorian footballers) has a different mentality.”

That glowing opinion is something shared by former Argentina and Premier League midfielder Juan Sebastien Veron, who is also convinced Caicedo has something special about him.

“If you get to a competition like the English one, you have to have something. It doesn’t just happen by chance,” he added.

“Ecuadorian football has had a lot of ups and downs and today I think they have the opportunity to really do something important if they want to. That also depends on the management.”
