Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been named as the Coach of the Year 2022, the Dansk Boldspil-Union [DBU] have confirmed on Thursday.
The 49-year-old helped the Bees get promoted to the Premier League in 2021 and guided them to a 13th placed finish last season.
Brentford have further improved under the Dane this season and are currently eight in the table, level on points with Liverpool, who are in the sixth spot.
Frank has seen his side seal a victory over Manchester United at home and away wins against Manchester City and Chelsea in the league this season.
He beat Mainz’s Bo Svensson, Silkeborgs manager Kent Nielsen and FC Nordsjælland boss Flemming Pedersen for the prestigious award. The votes were counted by bold.dk and the DBU, and they surprised him with this latest recognition at his office at Brentford earlier today.
“I’m very proud and honored about that, and I think we’ve done something good over here. I have some great players and a great staff, and it makes it easier for me to guide people in the right direction,” he told bold.dk.
“It’s a strong field, because what Bo Svensson is doing at Mainz is wildly impressive. Flemming is just too crazy – in a really nice way, and I was very inspired by him early in my career.”
“And then there is Kent Nielsen, who is both a good colleague and a good friend, who has perhaps played some of the coolest form of football in recent years in the Superligaen.”
Frank, ‘in the best colleague style’, then decided to send the other three managers a bouquet of roses as a token of appreciation for their work.
