Brentford have ‘recently made an appearance’ in the developing race for FC Thun youngster Valmir Matoshi.
That’s according to 4-4-2, who say they are competing with FC Basel for the central midfielder’s signature.
They explain that Basel are currently in concrete talks for the 20-year-old, who is considered one of the ‘upcoming pop stars’ of Swiss football.
The Swiss giants are not the only club interested in the youngster, though, with Brentford and FC Bologna having ‘recently made their appearance’ also.
Matoshi has been earning himself a growing reputation in Switzerland and Basel are keen to get a deal done, but negotiations are not advancing to the next level as his club, Thun, are demanding a ‘low seven figure fee’.
They don’t want to give up the Switzerland U21 international, who they consider a key player, and particularly when they are in the midst of competing to be promoted to the Swiss Super League.
Thus, they are resisting efforts from Basel, who seemingly don’t want to pay the figure being quoted at this moment in time.
Whether Brentford want to isn’t made clear, but they’ve already paid €4.5m to sign Yunus Emre Konak this month, suggesting they are more than prepared to spend their money if they consider a young player as good enough.
