On Tuesday, we covered reports from Brazil which said São Paulo were about to hear Brentford’s offer for Welington.
The Bees authorised his agent to speak to the Tricolor, and in a meeting they discussed the possibility of a deal.
As expected, an initial offer was turned down. That’s reported by the likes of ESPN, TNT Sports and UOL.
All those outlets claim that Brentford offered São Paulo €4.5m, letting the Brazilian side keep 30% of a future sale, and that wasn’t accepted.
It’s said São Paulo see the player as a very important piece for the rest of the season, and won’t give up on him. Plus they believe he’ll soon be worth more.
As reported by TNT Sports, they could even open talks for Welington to sign a new contract at the club.
The Brazilian media had already claimed that a sale would be hard to achieve. Journalist André Hernan said São Paulo set a very high price for him, and would only sell in case Brentford offered €20m. That clearly won’t happen, and this move now sounds very unlikely.
