Valencia are closing in on a deal for Brentford’s Sergi Canós, who should leave the Bees for a low fee or even on a free transfer.
That’s according to Deporte Valenciano and Castellon Plaza, who both cover the potential move today and what is needed to get it over the line.
Canós has been linked with a move to Valencia for the past few days, with them moving to secure his signature and make his dream of playing for the club a reality.
The Spaniard has been out of favour for Brentford for a while and spent the second half of this season on loan at Olympiakos. His contract was due to expire this summer, but the Bees took up an option to extend it, much to Canós’ annoyance.
That was presumably to ensure they could get some sort of fee or deal for him this summer and it is that which is now being negotiated with Valencia.
According to Deporte Valenciano, Valencia have closed a deal with the player on the transfer and are now simply working on the deal with Brentford.
They are ‘expected’ to let Canós leave on a free transfer but ensure they are given a percentage of any future sale in lieu of that fee. Their information is that it should be done ‘in the next few hours’.
Castellon Plaza, meanwhile, say that the negotiation with Canós is advanced and he will be signing a long-term deal at the Mestalla.
It is negotiations with Brentford which need to be ‘unravelled’ thanks to that year left on his contract and Valencia would like to do so by offering ‘a small amount’ and granting future rights to the Bees.
It is presumably the percentage on which they are still negotiating, although all signs point to that being done with sooner rather than later.
