Brentford are being pulled into a long running series of transfer claims around a Primeira Liga player, with it claimed Thomas Frank’s side have even made an offer.

Back in 2022, Newcastle United were strongly linked with a move to sign SC Braga youngster Roger Fernandes. The claims at the time were big, although the leap seemed too large for a player who was 16-years-old at the time.

Indeed, it was even claimed Newcastle United could pay €25m for him, which simply looked way too high and there were also doubts over a work permit.

Roger stayed where he was and then were then claims in October of last year about six Premier League clubs being keen on the Braga player. Indeed, he was said to be of interest to Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Atlético Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, PSV and Ajax.

Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo reports Brentford made an offer for Roger in January. That offer was said to have arrived from Brentford in the final days of the widow, was worth €15m and was rejected.

The report says all of PSV Eindhoven, Newcastle United, Ajax, Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have been in contact and all have been knocked back for the now 19-year-old.

Playing on the right side of attack, Roger has made 40 appearances so far this season, with five goals and four assists along the way.

O Jogo’s insinuation is that Braga are looking for a fee close to his €40m release clause, which feels ambitious.

Brentford are simply the latest to be pulled in.
