Valencia are ‘in talks’ with Brentford over a deal for Sergi Canós, with a €2.5m fee currently being touted for the Spaniard.
That’s according to Super Deporte, who say Brentford may lower their demands for the player to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.
Canós’ current deal with the Bees expires in the summer, although the club do have an option to extend it by a further year if they wish to.
It is more likely that the forward will be on the move this month and Super Deporte report that Valencia are negotiating a deal.
It’s explained that they are ‘scouring the market’ for a winger this month and the Brentford man is among the options they are considering.
They enquired about him in the summer and are showing an interest again in this window as Canós wants to leave.
Brentford are in talks with a number of clubs about a potential deal but the player is aware of the interest from Valencia and it is an option that ‘seduces him a lot’.
At this point Brentford are asking for a fee of around €2.5m but according to Super Deporte’s information, they would let him leave for a much lower amount this month to avoid a departure on a free in the summer.
That seems strange given they have an option to extend his deal so perhaps it is more a case of them being willing to reduce the price this month to get a deal done rather than extending him just to keep an unhappy player and need to find a solution in the summer.
Either way, Valencia are interested and have opened talks, with Canós keen on the move if the two clubs can work it out before the end of the January transfer window.
