Brentford are one of the sides interested in midfielder Morten Hjulmand but could face competition from Roma for his signature.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who name Brentford as one of the sides interested in the Lecce midfielder.

They explain that while the focus is currently on the World Cup semi-finals, Italian clubs are working to make moves in the January transfer market.

That saw Roma meet with Lecce today to discuss possible deals between the two clubs and Hjulmand was one of the players on the agenda.

He has become a ‘star player’ for Lecce this season and they value him at around €20m, knowing there are interested parties.

They don’t want to sell in January and are postponing any talks until the summer, but that has not stopped clubs lining up.

Brentford are one of them, having already plucked Aaron Hickey and Mikel Damsgaard from Serie A In the summer, meaning they know the league well and keep an eye on it.

It’s not the first time the Bees have been linked to Hjulmand, with a report midway through November insisting that they were keen after watching his performances this season.

It seems that interest has not gone away, but they are likely to face a fight with Roma, who are also keen and have already spoken to Lecce regarding a possible deal.
