Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães is close to renewing his contract with the club, according to claims from Brazil.
IG writes that the player has ‘advanced talks’ with the Magpies for a new deal, and there are just ‘details missing’ for it to be made official.
The story claims that Liverpool placed a £100m bid to sign Bruno Guimarães in the final days of the transfer window, and that was turned down by Newcastle.
The Magpies want to feel more safe about the midfielder’s situation at the club, and that’s why they would like to add at least one more year to his contract, giving him a big pay rise.
IG points out that Paris Saint Germain have also been ‘monitoring’ the player for a long time, and ‘regret’ not having signed him from Lyon, despite signalling they’d make a bid back then.
Newcastle spent €42m to sign Bruno Guimarães from Lyon in January 2022. Right now, he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €70m.
The midfielder is well protected with a contract running until 2026, but the Magpies clearly want to be more comfortable with a longer-term deal.
