International football. Always a lovely time for club fans to be worried about their players as they take the risk of getting injured whilst playing for their countries.

It was Gabriel Jesus who had a pretty bad day this Friday. Besides missing a couple of sitters which could have avoided Brazil’s 1-0 loss to Argentina, the Manchester City striker also had some bad luck after a challenge with his club partner Nícola Otamendi.

As reported by Globo Esporte today, Jesus fractured his orbit, the face bone which protects the eye. The injury was confirmed in a medical exam this morning in Australia and the player is now ruled out of the friendly against the country.

The website claims that on Friday, Brazilian doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and national team director Edu Gaspar have both contacted Manchester City to make the club aware of the situation, but the injury had not been confirmed at that time. At first Gabriel Jesus believed he hadn’t suffered a fracture, but scans later showed that was indeed the case, and Manchester City were subsequently informed.
