After all the mystery around the amount Watford are paying for Fluminense striker João Pedro, the Brazilian press is finally getting access to the numbers.
Globo Esporte brings a pretty good story this week about the help the youngster is providing both on and off the pitch.
Last weekend, he scored his first professional goal in a derby against Flamengo, and the more he plays, the more money Flu make from his sale.
The website claims that one of the clauses in the contract means Watford pay €100k for every game João Pedro features in for 45 minutes or more. The clause is only activated when he gets to 10 games, when the Hornets will pay €1m. That should help Flu a lot, since it’s the amount of their payroll.
Globo Esporte also breaks down the other payments. One of them has already been done, which was €2.5m once the deal was closed.
They say there are four bonuses of €1m for João Pedro’s performances at Fluminense, a bonus of €1.5m if he gets a work permit for the Premier League, and two bonuses of €1m for his potential performances for Watford.
That’s a total of €10m, the amount which had previously been reported as the total of this transfer.
That sounds as a pretty good deal for Watford, since they’re only paying if João Pedro proves to be a big talent. If he turns out to be as good as Richarlison, who was also bought from Fluminense, then the Hornets have an incredible agreement in their hands.
João Pedro is set to join Watford in 2020, once he turns 18.
