Brought in by Everton to help with planning for the future, Marcel Brands was seen as a beacon of hope by the Toffees fanbase after his successful time at PSV Eindhoven.
It all seemed to start rather well, with decent signings coming in, as well as the eventual arrival of Carlo Ancelotti to try and get the club back where many felt it belonged.
However, once the Italian left for Real Madrid and Rafa Benitez came in, it all collapsed rather quickly, and Brands was the first to go amid the growing criticism in and outside Goodison Park.
Whether that was the right move remains to be seen, but the Dutchman is currently out of a job, but that might not be the case for long.
They describe him as ‘perhaps the best candidate’, since he ‘has experience at home and abroad’, helping AZ win the league once and emulating that three times with PSV.
Since he is ‘available immediately’, no time or compensation would be wasted negotiating with another club, allowing the former Everton director of football to bounce back quickly and to a very well run club.
