Bournemouth have decided not sign defender Matias Viña on a permanent basis from Roma and have informed the Italian club as much.
That’s according to journalist Filippo Biafora, who says the Cherries do not intend to sign the left-back despite having a clause to do so in his loan deal.
Viña joined Bournemouth on loan from Roma in the January transfer window and managed 12 appearances between then and the end of the season in the Premier League.
He was a regular under Gary O’Neill and featured in Bournemouth’s final seven games of the season, but only managed 90 minutes in two of those games and more than 60 minutes in three of them.
It was clear he was not likely to be first choice under O’Neill and it seems he and his team have decided against signing the 25-year-old on a permanent basis.
According to Biafora, Bournemouth have ‘decided not to redeem’ the player for €15m, which was the clause included in his loan deal from Roma.
They ‘do not want to spend’ that amount on the player and have made that clear, despite his agents trying ‘until the last minute’ convince them otherwise.
It now appears that the Uruguayan will be returning to his parent club, although whether he has a long-term future there remains to be seen.
