Bournemouth may need to brace themselves for a bid from PSV Eindhoven for Justin Kluivert this summer, with Johan Bakayoko set to depart the Dutch champions.
That’s according to journalist Maarten Wijffels, who believes the current Bournemouth star could find himself targeted by PSV this summer.
The Eredivisie side are gearing up for life back in the Champions League next season after a superb campaign that has seen them crowned champions for the first time since 2016.
They have shown big ambition under the leadership of Marcel Brands, who returned to the club as Chief Executive Officer in 2022 and was tasked with rebuilding the side after a disappointing few years.
He’s done just that, abandoning the old strategy of targeting players down the ladder in favour of big-name signings such as Hirving Lozano.
Brands is likely to be ambitious again with his plans this summer and have the funds to do so too after two successive transfer windows of making a profit via big player sales.
There are likely to be big departures again this year, with the likes of Jooey Veerman, Noa Lang and Johan Bakayoko enjoying suitors across Europe. And the latter’s potential departure could lead PSV to look at Bournemouth, at least according to Wijffels.
“PSV had to stop getting players from the German sub-top/mid-table,” he said.
“Footballers like Timo Baumgartl, Philipp Max, Yvon Mvogo; you don’t get better from that category in the end, and they are also expensive. From the Bundesliga you never get the A category of German players, at most something that had A status previously (Mario Götze).
“For next summer, do not rule out PSV making an attempt at say Justin Kluivert or a level higher, as a newcomer for the wings when Johan Bakayoko is sold.”
