Bournemouth have found themselves firmly in the middle of a war of words over LDU Quito midfielder Óscar Zambrano as the club’s former leader hit back at recent claims by his agent.
That’s according to Ecuavisa, who cover comments from Esteban Paz today regarding the player’s potential sale.
Zambrano has been linked heavily with a move to Bournemouth over the past few weeks, with various reports indicating that they were moving to secure his signature and Andoni Iraola even being asked about the subject in a press conference.
Then, three days ago, came a report that Bournemouth had completed a move for the 19-year-old and beaten the competition to his signature.
That was quickly rebuffed by his agent, Mauricio Machado, who insisted that no such deal was in place and no bid had been made by the Cherries at that point.
This put him in direct conflict with the leader of the club’s Special Commission of Football, Esteban Paz, who had seemingly been briefing the media behind the scenes that Bournemouth were pushing to get their man.
This week saw the club vote to end that Commission and thus oust Paz from his position, and it seems he’s determined to leave swinging, hitting back at the agent’s comments.
“The only one that has submitted an offer is Bournemouth,” he said.
“But the boy’s representative has done everything to make the operation fail. They are closing the doors of the Premier League to Óscar because of the sloppy way in which everything has been handled.”
