On July 9th, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported Liverpool are keen on signing Southampton’s Roméo Lavia in the summer window.
Four days later, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated the Reds are waiting to find out Jordan Henderson’s decision on his future before sending an offer for the 19-year-old.
Apart from Liverpool, Sport state Barcelona have looked at the Southampton midfielder.
The Belgium international finished his debut season at St Mary’s with a goal and an assist from 35 games.
Although Southampton were relegated from the Premier League, his performances last season caught the attention of Jürgen Klopp’s side, Barca and others. Sport says this has convinced Liverpool and other clubs to ‘try to sign him’ in this window.
It’s said Barca have made contact with Lavia, who was keen.
They tried taking advantage of Southampton’s relegation to take him on a loan deal with an option to buy, but the English club demanded €40m to let him go.
As it stands, Sport say ‘there’s no way’ for the Blaugrana to convince Southampton over a loan. Therefore, they will have to back out and look at other options in the market.
With Liverpool trying to sign Lavia, Barca backing out would come as a boost for the Anfield club.
