German club Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to break their club transfer record. Bild claims on Tuesday that the club’s board have approved a €25m offer for Andreas Christensen.
The Chelsea defender is currently on loan at Gladbach, something which started last summer. Chelsea agreed a 2 year loan deal with the German club and if Gladbach hadn’t made sure there was no get out clause, Christensen would have likely returned to Chelsea at the end of last season.
It may be that the extra loan year sees Christensen’s chance of a long term Chelsea career damaged, with Antonio Conte currently doing his best to bring someone in.
The club’s general manager Max Eberl is quoted by Bild as saying: “For Andreas, we are ready to make a record transfer.”
The German newspaper say Christensen himself has already agreed to the permanent transfer. Now it’s over to Chelsea and Antonio Conte to have their say, and Bild believe there’s likely to be a request for a buyback clause.
The way it’s being reported in Germany, a deal is very much expected.
