Birmingham City want to sign Carlos Vicente from Alavés and are pushing to get a deal done for the 26-year-old.

That’s according to Marca. They report that while Alavés are exploring the market for themselves, they have encountered a problem. Birmingham want to sign Vicente.

Several English teams have been watching him, but it is Birmingham who have shown the most interest in the 26-year-old. Manager Eduardo Coudet doesn’t want to see him leave, particularly with results in a negative spiral.

But keeping him out of Birmingham’s hands may be difficult. They’ve made a ‘substantial offer for the player, despite Alavés seemingly not being willing to negotiate.

The Blues could make an interesting proposal to Vicente as well. They’re currently 14th in the Championship but have big ambitions for the future. And they’ve shown a willingness to spend to achieve those ambitions as well.

For the time being, it appears that Alavés have no interest in that money. They don’t want to lose Vicente at this point and are resisting the bid from Birmingham. How long they continue to do so, especially when those bids are described as substantial, remains to be seen.

Medical passed – More Birmingham City action on way

One man who will be arriving is John Solís. According to journalist Ivan Quiros, he’s already passed his medical with Birmingham. He’s also been granted his work permit for the UK, which been a concern for some.

The deal is in the final stages, so much so that Girona are confident they’ll be able to de-register him and register Claudio Echeverri. In fact, they think they can use him tonight, which would hint Solís is very close to being done and announced.

That may be slightly ambitious from Girona, but there’s no harm in that.

Meanwhile, Birmingham City continue their efforts to secure August Priske, with the player not featuring in a Djurgårdens IF friendly today.
