A year ago, just before the end of the 2023/24 season, the Portuguese media reported Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers interest in Sporting fullback Nuno Santos.
There weren’t many big stories about Forest and Wolves attempts at the time, with articles just claiming the interested clubs were aware it’d take at least €15m to sign him.
It turns out that as Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features a big story highlighting the good season Santos is having, Nottingham Forest and Wolves interest is recalled.
The outlet points out that the fullback had many offers to leave Sporting last summer, and it was the Lions who turned down all approaches for him.
Nottingham Forest and Wolves were among the list of sides who made contact, along with Torino, Eintracht Frankfurt and Nice.
Santos ended up staying at Sporting and even got a new contract, now being committed to the club until 2027, with a €60m release clause.
And while O Jogo highlights the ‘best numbers of his career’, with six goals and 15 assists this season so far, there’s no mention of a move or even a new approach from Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
Maybe he’ll have to remain one that got away.
