Over the weekend, French newspaper L’Equipe had an article about how determined Rafa Benitez is to sign Sebastien Haller. The Newcastle United manager is said to be keen to sign the Frenchman, who plays for Dutch club FC Utrecht.
However, Haller wasn’t too keen on a move to Newcastle because he didn’t want to play in the Championship, a problem Benitez is repeatedly encountering.
L’Equipe reckoned that Newcastle interest was serious and intensifying and they thought Haller himself would be impressed by the Benitez call.
Voetbal International (via SoccerNews.nl) have an update on Wednesday, saying that €7m, which had been mentioned as a possible bid, simply isn’t enough.
Utrecht’s manager Erik ten Hag is quoted as saying: “I find seven million for Haller too little. Sebastien is a player for the top.
It’s claimed Haller would stay another year at Utrecht if he doesn’t get the right moveto a big club.
