Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is Benfica’s target for their left side and the Lisbon club are ‘currently negotiating’ with the Premier League side.

That’s according to Record, who say that the Eagles have made Malacia their primary target and want to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

The newspaper reports that Malacia is ‘Benfica’s desire’ to reinforce their left-hand side, with the Portuguese club needing a reinforcement as Niklas Beste is set to join Freiburg.

Malacia has now been targeted, and talks are underway with Manchester United over a loan deal until the end of the season. The Dutchman has been made available by United as he is not a part of Ruben Amorim’s plans for the time being or indeed moving forward.

He needs regular playing time after returning from a long-term injury and that has not been on offer under Amorim at Old Trafford to date.

It could be at Benfica, though, who need competition and cover for Álvaro Carreras on the left-hand side if Beste heads to Germany as expected.

Interestingly, Carreras has been linked with a more to Manchester United, who hold a buy-back clause on the left-back after selling him to Benfica last summer.

Reports this month have indicated they wanted him back at some point and it will be interesting to see if a deal for Malacia has any bearing on that before deadline day.
