Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho has been on loan at Vasco da Gama since last summer and that loan will expire at the end of this month. As things stands, the attacking midfielder has to return to Villa Park, where he has a contract until 2026.
The Brazilian club want to extend the 33-year-old’s stay and recent claims have explained he’s trying to terminate his contract at Aston Villa. If that’s not possible they will look to secure a new loan deal.
Vasco da Gama have publicly stated on numerous occasions they want to retain the Aston Villa player. Two days ago, CEO, Carlos Amodeo, stated that they have already started negotiations with his agent.
Fernando Diniz, their manager, has now confirmed that everyone associated with Vasco da Gama wants the former Liverpool star to continue with them. He talked about Coutinho in a press conference and Terra have relayed his comments.
“I believe that things will work out and he will stay here with us. It’s his wish, Vasco’s, the fans’ and mine too,” he said.
Coutinho managed five goals and three assists from 26 games in all competitions for the South American club this year. The manager says he has a lot to offer to Vasco da Gama.
“I have a great connection with Philippe. I’ve always been a great admirer of his talent and now also as a person, as I get to know him more and more,” Diniz explained.
“A player with his talent and who is matched by his humility. He has a lot to offer Vasco and Brazilian football. Players like him are always a gift to Brazilian football.”
Coutinho hasn’t been part of Unai Emery’s plans and that’s unlikely to change. If Aston Villa terminate his contract, he can join Vasco da Gama permanently.
